Research center also boasts of a well equipped dry lab for providing skills training to its participants in the field of laparoscopic surgery. The lab is equipped with 10 state of the art endotrainers. Each trainer is equipped to train its participants in 5 basic laparoscopic skills. Our teaching program for the Dry Lab is adapted from the MISTELS program from McGill University Canada.
Each participant undergoing a workshop at the dry lab goes through a phase of intense training in the 5 basic skills; Intracorporeal knotting, Extracorporeal knotting, Endoloop, Pattern Cutting and Peg Transfer. A candidate must complete all tasks within an appropriate time frame and with a defined level of accuracy to be declared successful in the workshop.
So far the department has carried out 4 successful workshops on Basics of Laparoscopic Skills at Dry Lab, Research Center, and SIMS. We have had participants ranging from our very own surgical residents to consultants pertaining to various surgical fields.
Our vision is to get this training course recognized by the College of Surgeons and make it a must for all the surgical residents wishing to pursue their career in general surgery.
