“WOMEN AS HEALTH PROFESSIONAL”
Professor Zohra Khanum, Principal, Services Institute of Medical Sciences / Services Hospital Lahore, was the Keynote Speaker of the Second Obstetrics & Gynecology PESSI Conference held in Lahore from December 13–16, 2025, at Social Security Teaching Hospital, Multan Road, Lahore.
Her address focused on “Women as Healthcare Professionals,” highlighting and appreciating the vital role of women in healthcare from ancient times to the present day. The session acknowledged that women’s contributions extend far beyond physicians, encompassing nurses, paramedical staff, midwives, community health workers, and public health professionals.
Special recognition was given to the historic contributions of nurses during the First World War, whose dedication and sacrifices laid the foundation for modern nursing practices. The address also paid tribute to female frontline workers today, including polio workers and community health staff, whose tireless efforts continue to safeguard public health under challenging conditions.
Special acknowledgement was offered to parents and families of female healthcare professionals who raise them to serve. All males were appreciated, in all roles, who support these females to serve the community as health professionals.
This keynote served as a powerful tribute to the enduring strength, commitment, and invaluable contributions of women in healthcare, reaffirming their central role in advancing health systems and improving patient care worldwide.
State-of-the-art lectures delivered by leading Orthopaedic surgeons — Prof. Dr. Rashid Saeed, Prof. Dr. Ali Raza Hashmi, and Associate Professor Dr. Sher Afgan — significantly enhanced participants’ understanding of this complex topic.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Prof. Zohra Khanum, Principal SIMS, and Prof. Rakshan Shaheen Najmi, Ex-Professor/HOD of the Gynaecology Department, SIMS/SHL. The Principal appreciated the organizers for arranging academic and interactive workshop, which also included hands-on practice on saw bones.
