Advanced hands-on workshop on Ultrasound-Guided Intravenous (IV) Line and Central Venous Pressure (CVP) Line Insertion

On April 19,2025, an advanced hands-on workshop on Ultrasound-Guided Intravenous (IV) Line and Central Venous Pressure (CVP) Line Insertion was successfully organized at the Postgraduate Skills Lab of Services Hospital Lahore/Services Institute of Medical Sciences. This initiative was held under the patronage of Principal SIMS Prof. Dr. Zohra Khanum, with supervision of Prof. Liaqat Ali, HOD Department of Anesthesia and Pain management. The workshop was facilitated by experienced anesthetists; Dr. Waseem Ali Amjad Assistant Professor, Dr. Hafiz Usman Khalid Assistant Professor, Dr Shehryar Senior Registrar and Dr Minahil Senior Registrar who provided practical demonstrations to the participants.
The workshop aimed to enhance clinical competence through simulation-based education, enabling postgraduate trainees and junior doctors to gain confidence and precision in ultrasound-guided vascular access techniques. Participants had the opportunity to practice on high-fidelity manikins under expert supervision, ensuring a safe and structured environment for skill acquisition. Prof Dr. Liaqat Ali laid emphasis on patient safety, anatomical understanding, sterile technique and real-time ultrasound visualization to minimize complications during vascular access procedures.
These training workshops play a pivotal role in improving patient safety and healthcare outcomes. By equipping healthcare professionals with essential procedural skills in a controlled setting, the risk of iatrogenic injury is minimized, and the success rate of vascular access is significantly improved. The Postgraduate Skills Lab continues to serve as a hub for innovative and practical medical education, aligning with international standards and contributing to the development of competent and confident future clinicians.
