The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, SIMS, is the 24/7 working department rendering the teaching, training, research and certification of medico-legal work both for the undergraduate students & postgraduate trainees.

The first time in the history of SIMS, Lahore, the department is headed by a full Professor, possessing the qualification of FCPS FORENSIC MEDICINE, before that the department was headed either by an Associate Professor or Assistant Professor only. Its head is also serving as Surgeon Medicolegal, Punjab, Lahore in addition to adjunct faculty member of PUNJAB JUDICIAL ACADEMY & Prosecutor Department, Punjab, Lahore. He was adjunct faculty member of UHS, Lahore too. 

At present, the department is recognized for post graduate training and examination center like, DMJ, MCPS, M. Phil and FCPS both from PM&DC, Islamabad and CPSP, Karachi.

It is the first department in Lahore and 2^nd in all over the Punjab where ANTI RAPE CRISIS CELL was established as per ANTI RAPE (investigation & trial) act 2021.

The department is also member of ASIAN PACIFIC MEDICOLEGAL ASSOCIATION (APMLA).  It is equipped with issuing of online computerized type medicolegal certificates. 

Almost on an average 2500 medicolegal certificates of Physical/Sexual assaults and poisoning are issued annually.
