Pathology Department Services Institute of Medical Science Lahore is providing state of the art laboratory diagnostic services to its attached Services Hospital Lahore. It is providing services to OPD, admitted and emergency patients 24/7. It is a busy department with an annual turnover of about 2.3 million tests.

The department is comprised of full time highly qualified consultants, faculty members and post graduate trainees. It provides teaching and training programs for FCPS, M.Phil Post graduate students, in the disciplines of Hematology, Histopathology, Chemical Pathology and Microbiology along with medical technologists & nursing trainees. The department is also responsible for teaching MBBS students in the disciplines of General Pathology, Microbiology and Special Pathology.

The department provides learning opportunities to the post graduate trainees. There is an ongoing calendar for case presentations, morphology sessions, journal club and hands on performance sessions.

In addition Pathology Department regularly participates in Multidisciplinary Tumor Board meeting for cancer patients.

There is an active participation of faculty and trainees in conducting various workshops, conferences, symposia and research projects.

The department has taken lead in many other things that include:-

1. Haemoglobin studies by HPLC for Thalassemia screening.
2. Provision of FNAC services for breast and axillary masses in One Stop Breast clinic in Services Hospital, Lahore.
3. Provision of Lab Services for Medical Examination Department that caters to all recruitments in Government of Punjab.
4. Round the clock laboratory services delivery in epidemics (Covid-19 and Dengue).  Dengue counters for CBC test are established which caters to nearly 1000 patients/day.

Future endeavours of the department include establishment of a Central Pathology lab along with up-gradation of existing diagnostic facilities for better management of patients.
