Medical Unit-I, Department of Medicine, located on 2nd floor, in the Administration Block, Services Institute of Medical Sciences/Services Hospital was established in 1958. It is a 55 bedded ward out of which 8 beds are allocated to the attached HDU. The Unit has myself working as the Head of Department and Associate Professor of Medicine. Other trained clinical staff includes two Assistant Professors, three Senior Registrars, one Senior Medical Officer, two Medical Officers and two Women Medical Officers. Our  clinical roster includes daily consultant rounds, biweekly Emergency and OPD. We provide comprehensive FCPS Medicine training program accredited by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in 1983 and MD Medicine accredited by University of Health Sciences in 2018.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES:

We teach and train clinical classes of MBBS and Post Graduate trainees of FCPS &MD of both Medicine and Allied. We strive to teach medicine using collaborative, inter-professional model. We want to develop and enhance assessment skills and identify and treat acute medical care needs. As multi-disciplinary teams, we promote a friendly environment among the patients, their families and all the medical and paramedical staff, focusing on individualized patient centered care. The Goal of the Department of Medical Unit-I is to train physicians who are able to provide comprehensive, high quality, continuous care in urban, rural, or remote settings. We encourage our trainees for academics, research and co-curricular activities. We also maintain a regular calendar for various workshops, presentations, individual assignments, journal club, basic and advanced life support skills, mortality meetings and audits.

ONGOING RESEARCH PROJECTS:

  1. Observed adverse effects of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine in healthcare workers
  2. Frequency of vitamin d deficiency in patients with chronic liver disease
  3. Comparison of mean portal vein flow velocity among patients with different child pugh classes in patients with liver cirrhosis
  4. Correlation of thrombocytopenia with different grades of esophageal varices
  5. Frequency and pattern of dyslipidemia in newly diagnosed type dm type 2
  6. Evaluation of dyslipidemia in nortensive , normogylcemic , and in non smokers obese patients presenting to tertiary care hospital.
  7. Sex difference in atrial fibrillation and  its association with hs CRP.
  8. Comparison of glycemic parameters in diabetic patients who are using statin therapy versus those not using statin therapy
